Tax preparation and planning
Tax preparation for business owners.
Tablerock helps owners of S corporations, sole proprietorships, and single-member businesses coordinate their business and personal filings, calculate estimated payments, and understand what the numbers mean. A limited number of new clients are being accepted for the 2027 filing season.
The problem
Tax preparation should not be a once-a-year transaction.
A business return and an owner return affect each other. Wages, distributions, estimated payments, retirement contributions, and the cash you actually need to live on are not unrelated questions, but they often get handled as though they were.
The result is a return that arrives in April with a number attached and no explanation, and an owner who finds out in January what they should have known in October.
How it works
Both returns, one engagement, one person who can explain it.
The entity return and the owner return are prepared together, the estimated payments are calculated from the actual result rather than from last year's number, and the engagement ends with a conversation about what was filed, what to pay next, and what deserves attention during the year.
That is the whole product. It is deliberately narrow.
Who does the work
Ben Wright has been a CPA for more than ten years, with a career spent inside small businesses and on the lending side evaluating them. Tax returns are prepared and reviewed by him, not handed to a seasonal preparer. More about Ben
Pricing
Clear starting prices for a focused practice.
Every engagement is quoted before work begins. Starting prices assume complete and reasonably clean records, a single state, timely documents, and no unresolved prior-year issues. If the scope changes, you hear about it before any additional work happens.
| Service | Starting fee | What it includes |
|---|---|---|
| Business Owner Tax Package | $1,350 | Federal Form 1040, Schedule C for one business, state individual return, quarterly estimated-payment calculation, electronic filing, and one results meeting. |
| S Corporation Owner Tax Package | $2,950 | Federal Form 1120-S, the state entity return, one shareholder K-1, one owner federal and state individual return, estimated payments, a basic review of officer compensation in the context of the return, electronic filing, and one results meeting. |
| Annual Tax Projection | $950 | One projection based on information available at the time, federal and state estimated-payment calculations, review of S corporation wages and distributions where applicable, one meeting, and a written action list. |
| Individual return | $750 | One federal Form 1040 and one state return. Accepted selectively, generally alongside a business engagement. |
Additional scope
| Item | Starting fee | |
|---|---|---|
| Additional state return | $400 | |
| Additional shareholder K-1 | $250 | |
| Additional owner Form 1040 | $850 | |

| Formal reasonable compensation analysis | $600 | |
| Late or expedited engagement | 20–30% | Premium applied to the base fee. |

Work begins only after the scope, fixed fee, engagement agreement, and document expectations are accepted. Payment is required before electronic filing.
Client fit
A focused practice, and a short roster.
This is probably a fit if
- You own the business and run it day to day
- The business is an S corporation, sole proprietorship, or single-member LLC
- Your bookkeeping is current, in QuickBooks Online or another accessible system
- You want the business and individual returns coordinated
- You value responsiveness, organization, and a clear explanation
Worth a conversation first
- Partnerships, C corporations, trusts, estates, or multiple states
- Multiple entities, or unresolved basis questions
- Heavy inventory or complex revenue recognition
- Books that are well behind and need rebuilding first
Some of this I take on and some of it I refer out to people who do it every day. Either way you get a straight answer on the call, not after you have paid for one.
The process
Five steps, no surprises.
Common questions
Before you ask.
Do you prepare partnership returns?
Sometimes. It depends on the partnership. Bring it to the call and you will get a direct answer, and a referral to someone who handles them well if it is not a fit here.
Can you replace my current CPA?
Yes. With your authorization I will identify the prior returns, accounting records, and supporting information needed for an orderly transition.
Do you offer bookkeeping?
Bookkeeping and cleanup are separate services, accepted selectively. Tax pricing assumes the underlying records are current and reasonably complete. If they are not, cleanup comes first and is quoted on its own.
Do you work with clients outside Idaho?
Yes. Tablerock is based in Boise and works remotely. Federal returns are prepared the same way no matter where you are, and state returns are handled for the states your business actually files in. Ben holds active CPA licenses in Idaho and Montana.
How many new clients are you accepting?
Capacity is intentionally limited so each engagement gets proper attention. Joining the client list begins a fit review and does not guarantee acceptance.
What if my books are behind?
That is common and it is fixable. Cleanup is handled as a separate project with its own fixed quote, and it happens before the return rather than during it.
Is this tax planning or tax preparation?
Preparation is the core service. The annual projection is a separate, defined engagement for existing tax clients who want to see the likely result before the year closes. It is not open-ended advisory.
